Unstructured Supplementary Service Data allows for a * and # command sequence to be used on the phone to bring up a menu driven data interface. USSD is great for interactive data sessions for non-WAP phones.

USSD is available at a standard rate tariff of R0.60 per session and several Premium Rated USSD bands from R1.20 right up to R5.00.

If you wish to run USSD services at the standard rate tariff of R0.60, internet connectivity is acceptable, however, if you intend running USSD services at premium rated tariff bands, then it is compulsory that you have a point-to-point fixed communication link into Vodacom.

How Much Does It Cost?

Unitisation of 20 seconds is applied to these tariffs – i.e. the subscriber will be billed in 20 second increments.  Maximum session length is 3 minutes.

Vodacom charges the WASPs a bearer fee, and the same Service Provider (VAS Service) fees as per Premium Rated SMS apply. *See below for more detail.
