For years Google has been the one stop shop for search queries online. Over the years, Google has gone on to become a huge player tech world through creating the Android operating system (OS) as well as services like Google Docs (Word), Google Sheets (Excel) and Google Drive among many others. Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is used to track website performance and collect visitor insights. It can help businesses determine which sources generate the most user traffic, measure marketing campaign performance, track how many users successfully complete a goal (such as adding products to the cart or clicking the "contact us form") and other valuable insights including user demographics such as age and gender.

Google Analytics 4 is becoming increasingly popular amongst small and medium-sized businesses because it's easy to setup, is mostly free and comes with "out of the box" insights that can be used to improve marketing campaigns, increase website traffic and retain visitors.

What is analytics all about?

Different companies have websites for different reasons, but they are all driven by the same data information: how often people visit, which section of the website they visit and how they interact with the content they visit. Google Analytics 4 brings this information together in a seamless way that businesses can analyse and compare to make more informed decisions.

A beginners guide to Google Analytics 4

While any analytics platform can be daunting at first, GA4 has a range of free and paid for resources available that will help you go from novice to ninja in no time. From short tutorials on YouTube like how to setup your account, to a series of crash courses, there’s no shortage of content when it comes to this topic. Google Analytics academy has also developed a free course for beginners. Grouped into 4 modules, users will learn how to navigate the interface and basic reports, how to setup dashboards and how to analyse your website Audience, Acquisition and Behaviour reports. Whether you’re a solopreneur, or running a business with a bigger team, this is a great way to upskill and ensure your business is future-fit.

Be free, or pay a fee

Google Analytics 4 has a standard free version that provides all of the basic analytic information breakdowns to assist you in making an informed decision for your business. This includes being able to filter only certain information to create an in depth breakdown of a website’s performance – such as the number of views on a new product page.

There is also a paid version called Google Analytics 360 which includes benefits such as larger data records and a more dedicated support structure. However, we recommend making the most out of the tools available on the free version, before progressing to a paid account.
